A passenger flight from Cardiff Airport to Cyprus was diverted after a bird strike.
The Tui flight to Paphos declared an emergency shortly after take off at around 4.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
An hour later, the Boeing 737 plane landed at Birmingham Airport after burning fuel in a series of orbits over Swansea Bay. All the passengers and crew disembarked safely.
One passenger told BBC Wales that the pilot had announced a diversion because of engine failure.
But Tui later confirmed there was no engine failure and a 'bird strike after take-off' had led to the diversion as a precautionary measure.
Emergency crews, including four fire appliances greeted the aircraft at Birmingham, causing some delays.
A spokesperson for Cardiff Airport said: "We are aware of an incident involving flight TOM6754 from Cardiff to Paphos. The safety of our passengers is our number one priority. The aircraft diverted to Birmingham Airport (BHX) and landed safely at approximately 17:30."
