Vale of Glamorgan Council is helping to mark LGBT+ History Month, which is being held throughout February.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the annual event in the UK, which aims to reflect on the significance of recognising and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community.
The theme for this year's commenorations is Activism and Social Change, honouring LGBT+ people who have helped to shape and create social change.
Each year, organisers of LGBT+ History Month choose five people who have created social change from across the centuries in progressing change in many causes ranging from housing and the environment to preserving heritage and abolition of the slave trade. They are:
- Octavia Hill
- Ivor Cummings
- Annie Kenney
- Charlie Kiss
- Olaudah Equaino
Cllr Ruba Sivagnanam, cabinet member for equalities, said: "The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s participation in LGBT+ History Month is paramount in affirming our commitment to understanding, respecting, and celebrating diversity."
“This month serves as an opportunity to shed light on the historical struggles, achievements, and contributions of the LGBT+ community.”
