A deliberate fire at the Salisbury Road play area in Barry, known locally as The Dump, is estimated to have caused £4,500 worth of damage.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council shared the news on social media, sharing that the fire took place on the evening of Monday 7th April.
The council says the play area will now remain closed until it's safe to reopen and could be closed for some of the upcoming Easter holidays.
A spokesperson said, "We know play spaces like this really matter to families. Despite the Council’s challenging financial position, our teams work hard to find ways to provide new facilities and maintain the ones we have."
"It is heartbreaking to see that someone has made a choice to take this play area away from the families and young people who enjoy it."
South Wales Police are currently investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police using the crime reference number 2500111261 via the Police website: https://www.south-wales.police.uk/.../provide-more.../
