Andy Legg's second spell as Barry Town United manager began with a 1-0 defeat to Colwyn Bay in the Cymru Premier.
Nathan Peate's second half-goal for the Seagulls denied the hosts their first win in the Championship Conference.
Legg returned to the Jenner Park club for the first time since April, having left for personal reasons, with Steve Jenkins resuming his duties as director of football.
Seeking to banish memories of last week's shock Welsh Cup exit at Rhyl, Josh Bernard and Owen Cuddihy were dropped to the bench, making way for the return of Eliis Williams and Will Richards in the starting XI.
But it was the Bay who enjoyed the brighter start with Aeron Edwards going close to taking an early lead from close range and Peate's header forcing keeper George Ratcliffe into an early save.
Barry eventually forced their way into carving out chances with Alex Brown narrowly denying Ollie Hulbert's effort from a Keston Davies cross, while Ieuan Owen's low drive was also kept out by the Bay keeper.
As the heavens opened, Jordan Davies struck the side-netting from a quick throw-in for the visitors before Owen headed wide from the resulting counter attack.
Peate again close on the stroke of half time, but then three minutes after the restart, the Seagulls defender nodded down his fifth goal of the season past Ratcliffe to leave Barry playing catch-up.
Edwards came close to adding a second for the Bay moments later, while Ben Margetson's auadacious long-range effort going wide was about as close as Barry came to an equaliser before the game gradually petered out.
Barry remain sixth in the Championship Conference as attention turns to their Valentine's Day trip to face Caernarfon Town at Llandudno.

Elsewhere, Penybont suffered a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of The New Saints, who are now ten points clear at the top, while Caernarfon drew 1-1 at Connah's Quay Nomads, thanks to a stoppage time penalty for Sion Bradley.
Haverfordwest County won 2-0 at Briton Ferry Llansawel to stay top of the Play-Off Conference, while Fumpa Mwandwe equalised to earn Cardiff Met a 1-1 draw with strugglers Bala Town.
And Flint Town United earned a crucial 2-0 victory over all-but-relegated Llanelli Town to stay three points above the drop zone.
