Barry Town United have signed midfielder Daniel Barton on a two-year contract.
The former Newport County youth joins the Jenner Park club as their fourth summer signing, ahead of the new season which begins next weekend.
Barton spent part of last season on loan at Cymru Premier rivals Cardiff Met, making nine first team appearances before he was released by the Exiles in May.
He said: "I’m really proud to be joining Barry. It’s a club with a great identity and ambition, and I want to play a part in that. The way the team wants to play suits me, and I’m looking forward to getting going."
The club says Barton brings "energy and versatility" to the Barry midfield, with reputation for intelligence on the ball along with a high work rate and an eye for a forward pass.
Head of football Steve Jenkins feels Barton will be a "great fit for what the team is building" ahead of their Nathaniel MG Cup opener against Aberystwyth Town in the second round on Saturday.
"Daniel’s a really clever footballer", he said. "He covers ground, he’s sharp in possession, and he’s got the right attitude. He’s hungry, and that’s exactly what we want in this squad. He’ll bring balance and real energy in midfield."
Barry have also recruited ex-Lichfield City striker Dan Smith, goalkeeper Joe Thomas from Cardiff City and former TNS defender Keston Davies, along with returning keeper George Ratcliffe, who spent last season at Connah's Quay Nomads.
