Cardiff Airport has launched a new awareness campaign aimed at helping young people stay safe while travelling abroad, created in memory of Rhoose teenager Tom Channon, who died on holiday in 2018.
The Airport is working closely with Tom’s parents, John and Ceri Channon, to promote the Stay Aware, Stay Safe, Stay Together message. A series of posters has now been installed across high‑footfall areas in the Check‑In and Departures halls, encouraging passengers—particularly first‑time holidaymakers—to look out for one another.
Tom was 18 when he travelled to Magaluf with friends to celebrate finishing his A‑levels. While returning to his hotel alone, he suffered a fatal fall. Since then, his parents have dedicated themselves to raising awareness of holiday safety to help prevent similar tragedies.
Cardiff Airport says it is proud to support their efforts and hopes the campaign will resonate with young travellers heading overseas this summer.
Angela Hewitson, Terminal Manager at Cardiff Airport, said "We are extremely proud to support Tom's campaign, which delivers an important message about staying safe whilst travelling abroad. Through the dedication of John and Ceri, Tom's legacy continues to make a positive difference by helping to raise awareness among young travellers and their families.
"Posters displayed around the Airport include a QR code linking to a range of practical safety resources, developed collaboratively by Tom's parents and his former sixth form college, St David's Catholic College in Cardiff. The resources offer valuable guidance to help young people stay safe and look after one another whilst overseas.
"We encourage all passengers to take a moment to reflect on the campaign's message, 'Stay Aware, Stay Safe, Stay Together', and to look out for one another whilst enjoying their travels."
The Airport says the initiative forms part of its wider commitment to supporting the local community and promoting safe travel.
