Direct flights from Cardiff Airport to Toronto will be launched ahead of next year's World Cup.
Canadian low-cost airline WestJet will run four flights a week to Toronto Pearson Airport, starting from May, after choosing Rhoose as its new exclusive base for Wales and England.
It marks the return of a direct transatlantic link between Wales and Canada for the first time since 2008 - with Canada preparing to co-host the World Cup alongside the USA and Mexico.
Cardiff Airport bosses say it represents a "key milestone" in its post-pandemic recovery, with annual passenger numbers growing towards the one million mark.
Chief executive Jon Bridge, who began his role earlier this month, said: "This new Toronto route marks an exciting milestone in our growth and a major step forward in reconnecting Wales with North America."
"It will strengthen tourism, create new opportunities for trade and investment, and showcase Wales on the global stage."

The First Minister, who welcomed the announcement, says the new route will open up new economic opportunities for Wales in North America.
Eluned Morgan said: "We have around 35 Canadian companies in Wales, employing around 6,500 people, while Canada is an export market worth over £300m a year."
"Ahead of our Wales Investment Summit on 1st December, this is a positive example of how we are opening up international opportunities for people and businesses in Wales."
WestJet passengers will be able to connect from Toronto to other key Canadian cities including Calgary, Montreal and Vancouver, where seven World Cup matches will be played at the BC Place stadium.
Six games will be played at Toronto's BMO Field, home of the city's MLS (Major League Soccer) club.
