A young drug dealer has been detained after he led police through a high-speed chase while he was high on cannabis.

Footage released by South Wales Police shows Jack Finch giving himself up after he tried to flee officers in Barry last November.

The 19 year-old pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and possession of cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply.

Cardiff Crown Court heard Finch sped off from patrol officers after he was spotted in the early hours of Monday 17th November.

A roads policing officer took over the chase, which saw Finch reach speeds of 80mph through 20mph zones and drive the wrong way around roundabouts.

At one point, he narrowly missed another motorist.

After ten minutes, Finch stopped his car and waved his hand out of the window - a roadside swab test confirmed he had been driving under the influence of cannabis.

Police found a designer Gucci bag containing over £13,000 worth of cocaine, along with nearly £10,000 in cash, a cannabis bud, ten bags of cookies laced with cannabis, a baseball bat and digital scales.

Evidence found on Finch's phones linked him to drug dealing.

He went onto admit a total of nine charges - including being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, acquiring money as criminal property, driving without a licence or insurance and driving while unfit through drugs.

He was sentenced to two years and eight months at a young offenders institute.

Following sentencing earlier this month, Detective Constable Lloyd Willmott from the Cardiff and Vale Organised Crime Unit, said: "Jack Finch led officers on a reckless and dangerous pursuit through Barry, knowing what he had in his car."

"He put himself, officers and members of the public in danger in a desperate bid not to get caught. But his choices caught up with him and it was only a matter of time before he was arrested."

"I hope he uses the time he has in a young offender’s institution wisely, to reflect on the choices he made. At 19 years old, he has the opportunity to change and to turn his life around."
