A community-run pantry scheme has held a special food festival for its customers.
The GVS FoodShare Pantry, based in Llantwit Major and St Athan, teamed up with other groups and organisations to run a day of workshops and demonstrations.
Every customers who attended the festival won new kitchen equipment and was given a recipe folder to take home, along with advice on health and nutrition.
FoodShare co-oordinator Nic Osgood said: "It was a great day and such a brilliant opportunity to arm our customers with the skills, knowledge and confidence to be able to use the surplus food that we get into the pantry on a weekly basis."
"As the weeks go by we will make new recipe cards available based on what is in season and available in the pantry, so this is only the start of an ongoing journey!"
GVS' own pantry volunteer Cathy demonstrated healthy snack ideas - while the Cardiff and Vale Nutrition and Dietetics ran kitchen skills workshops, including how to make a healthy 'pot noodle'.
Versus Arthritis provided information about the links between diet and arthritis, while Fit Bluebirds attended to discuss their new health programme that is now being delivered at the CF61 centre in Llantwit Major.
The CF61 gardening team ran 'grow your own demonstrations' - together with free seeds for customers - while the ASDA Community team provided goodies, a fruit-kebab making station and entertainment packs for children.
Zoe, a FoodShare customer said: "A wonderful event for everyone to attend free of charge, such a lifeline for so many locals. Fabulous prizes, I was fortunate enough to win the slow cooker – perfect for wonky veg soup!"
The GVS FoodShare Pantry runs every Thursday at the CF61 centre in Llantwit Major from 12-2pm and every other Wednesday at The Gathering Place in St Athan. For more information and to reserve a time to shop, call 01446 741 706 or follow @foodsharellantwit on Facebook and Instagram.
