A project which brings together 24 social landlords, alongside the Vale Council and Welsh Government, has won a prestigious award at the 2025 Constructing Excellence in Wales Awards.
Tai ar y Cyd won the Integration and Collaborative Working category, which was presented at a ceremony on 20th June at Celtic Manor Resort.
Organisers say the award celebrates the project's innovative and unified approach to solving Wales' most pressing housing and climate challenges.
The project brings together 24 social landlords – including the Vale of Glamorgan Council – alongside Welsh Government and leading industry experts in a bold partnership to deliver affordable, sustainable, and high-quality homes.
It is a shared mission to provide next-generation housing that is energy-efficient, low-carbon, and cost-effective for tenants.
Homes are designed using a standardised pattern book that incorporates advanced building techniques and prioritises the use of Welsh and UK-grown timber, reducing emissions while supporting local supply chains and communities.
Andrew Freegard, Operational Manager for Housing Development at the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Chair of the Tai ar y Cyd Project Steering Group, said: “I was extremely proud and honoured to have accepted the award on behalf of everybody involved in the Tai ar y Cyd project. This is a testament to the dedication and collaboration of our housing partners, designers and project staff.
“It’s a remarkable achievement to see 24 social landlords working together toward a common goal – a standardised pattern book of highly energy-efficient homes to accelerate the delivery of affordable housing in Wales.”
With its focus on collaboration, sustainability, and innovation, Tai ar y Cyd is setting a new standard for the future of housing in the Vale of Glamorgan.
