Llantwit Major is looking to secure dementia friendly status as part of a new campaign.
A special open day event offering advice and information for people living with dementia and their loved ones will be held in April.
The Dementia Friendly Llantwit Major forum has been working alongside partners such as Vale Council in an effort to better support residents who live with the condition.
Cllr Eddie Williams, cabinet member for social care and health, said: "Becoming a dementia friendly town can make a big difference in supporting people affected by dementia to live a better and more fulfilled life."
“Raising awareness of the condition locally will help people to continue to participate fully in their own communities and stay connected."
“The council is committed to supporting the campaign to achieve dementia friendly status in Llantwit Major, and will continue to champion the needs of all residents.”
Action taken during the campaign so far has included helping to provide safe social inclusive activites and appropriate transport, as well as dementia awareness training sessions.
Businesses have been also urged to join the Dementia Listens campaign - with 45 local traders signing up to help raise awareness.
The local rotary club has also donated £1000 to help fund materials such as entrance mats and leaflets for people experiencing dementia and their carers.
A number of regular dementia friendly activites around the town are already held - such as the More in Common group's Chatty Cafe held at the CF61 centre and the Memory Cafe at Our Lady and St Illtyds Catholic Church Hall.
A Dementia Open Day - the first of its kind in Llantwit Major - will be held at Llantonian Hall on Saturday 12th April from 10am to 2pm - with support groups, services and organisations on hand to offer advice and information.
