Families in Palmerston have a brand-new place to play after a full refurbishment of the local play area was completed this week.
The revamped space, funded through the Welsh Government’s All Wales Play Opportunities Programme, has replaced the ageing equipment with a colourful, modern and fully accessible playground designed for children aged one to 12.
The upgrade includes a wheelchair-accessible roundabout, sensory play panels, climbing frames and a five-seat swing, along with bright playground artwork that makes the space feel more welcoming for children of all abilities.
Pupils from Palmerston Primary School were among the first to try out the new equipment as they joined representatives from play equipment company Kompan for the official opening.

Speaking at the launch, Cllr Bronwen Brooks said the new-look play area would give local families “a refreshed and inclusive space to enjoy”, adding that it offers children “a safe and welcoming environment to play, be active and spend time outdoors”.
The Palmerston project is one of several recent investments in public spaces across the Vale, including the refurbished splash pad and skate park at Pencoedtre, improvements at Seel Park in Dinas Powys, and the upgraded play area at Cog Road in Sully.
The new play area is now open for families to enjoy throughout the summer.

The next step in creating a “groundbreaking destination” has been lodged to a south Wales council. v.1
