New local food directory unveiled

VOG Council

A new go-to guide to food and drink producers in the Vale of Glamorgan has been launched.

The 'Taste of the Vale' directory showcases the county's food and farming heritage, including the work of vineyards, dairies, bakeries and horticulturalists.

Vale of Glamorgan Council says the project, funded by the UK Government, aims to help connect residents and visitors with "passionate producers" from across the area.

Cath Smith, senior food and farming officer, said: "Eating seasonal and local food is about much more than just great taste, it's about sustainable farming, fresh nutritious food and supporting local producers who work tirelessly to produce high quality locally made food and drink."

"It's good for the local economy, good for the environment and good for our local communities."

The new guide, which can be found on the Visit the Vale website, is being backed up by a social media campaign over the coming months, in keeping with seasonal availability.

Later this month, over twenty food businesses will be taking part in a wide range of events as part the third annual Vale Food Trail festival, which attracted over a thousand visitiors last year.

Nia Hollins, principal tourism and marketing officer, added: "The food directory aims to take you on a mouth-watering discovery of the award winning and innovative food and drink producers that we are proud to have within the Vale."
