Work will begin this weekend on a new mural at the Barry skatepark built in memory of Richard Taylor.
It will mark two years since the Knap Gardens facility was upgraded and opened in memory of the former UK in-line skating champion, who died in an accident in 2004.
National Lottery funding has been secured for the project, which will start on Saturday and take around five weeks to complete.
The Richard Taylor Memorial Trust has been working with local residents and skaters on creating a street art tribute, which will feature silhouettes of Richard and the landmarks of his hometown.
Vale of Glamorgan Council says the final design has been refined to ensure it complements the Knap Gardens' natural surroundings, after taking on board feedback from the community.
Cllr Mark Wilson, cabinet member for neighbourhood services: "The Richard Taylor Memorial Skatepark has become such an important community space over the past two years, and this mural will add something truly special."
"We’re proud to have supported the Richard Taylor Memorial Trust and everyone involved in bringing this vision to life."
For safety reasons, the skatepark will be closed temporarily during the work while scaffolding is in place and is expected to reopen in time for the Christmas holidays.
Specialist street art company Hurts So Good will be carrying out the project.
