A Penarth man who sexually abused a young girl has been jailed for 21 years.
Perry McCarthy was found guilty on a total of 18 charges including six of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and four counts of voyeurism.
Cardiff Crown Court heard the 65 year-old had carried out a "campaign of rape and sexual abuse" against his victim for a number of years.
He was also convicted on three counts of oral rape and further charges of engaging in sexual activity with a child, digital penetration and sexual assault by touching.
A judge told McCarthy he had used the victim as his "plaything" and thought he could "get away with it because of her vulnerability".
Following sentencing on Friday, Detective Constable Joanna Cecerko from South Wales Police, said: “I want to commend the victim for her courage in coming forward - thanks to her report and support from her family, justice has been served."
“It has been a traumatic time for everyone involved and I am hopeful the outcome at court brings the victim and her family some comfort which they deserve.”
McCarthy must serve at least two-thirds of his prison sentence - 14 years - before he can be considered for parole.
He was also given an extended licence of a year and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 15 years.
