A Plaid Cymru Councillor has repeated her calls for investment in the Bendricks area of Barry, after a planning application for 70 houses was passed last week.
Cllr Millie Collins warned that the continued housing growth in the Bendricks is not being matched by investment in an area, which she says has limited bus services, and limited community spaces.
Speaking at the Vale Council's Planning Committee meeting, Cllr Collins also expressed concern at the impact on the area's ancient woodland, to ensure that the housing development has no negative environmental impact.
Plaid Cymru councillor Millie Collins told the committee "The Bendricks is a unique part of Barry, on the south-side of the Docks, with housing alongside an industrial estate"
"However, there are no shops, community facilities and no bus service on a Sunday, or during the later afternoon. Bendricks residents (current and future) need a proper assessment by the council of the area's needs."
"During the consultation, we have also received concerns about the impact the development will have on the ancient woodland at the site.
"Planning Committee members need to be assured that this development does not have a negative impact.
"I would like to ask that there is a community needs assessment be carried out as soon as possible to ensure the needs of the community are met."
