The Post Office is appealing for applicants to take over services in Dinas Powys, after Morrisons confirmed that the village’s only remaining branch would close in early October.
The existing Post Office sits within a Morrisons Daily Store on Castle Drive, with a petition to save the service receiving almost 1,000 signatures in a matter of weeks.
According to the Post Office’s official operator‑recruitment site, a long‑term operator is now urgently being sought to secure the future of postal services in the village.
The listing invites prospective applicants to run a part‑time branch offering core services such as mail, bill payments, cash withdrawals and banking. Without a successful applicant, the Post Office warns that the outreach service may end — leaving Dinas Powys without any Post Office provision.
Bro Radio first reported the potential closure earlier this week, with growing concern among residents and community leaders. The village previously had two branches, but the central Post Office closed several years ago, making the Castle Drive facility the last remaining option for more than 8,000 residents.
The Post Office says it is keen to maintain a presence in Dinas Powys and is encouraging individuals, businesses or community organisations to apply. Details of the role, including service hours and financial arrangements, are available on the Post Office’s “Run a Post Office” website.
Local representatives have warned that losing the branch would particularly affect older residents, people who rely on cash services, and those without access to online banking — searching for a new operator is increasingly urgent.
