Work to upgrade public toilet facilities in key town centres across the Vale of Glamorgan are taking place.
To date, works have been completed in Cowbridge and Llantwit Major, with work set to begin shortly to upgrade facilities at King Square in Barry and in Penarth Town Centre.
The programme, delivered by Vale of Glamorgan Council, is set to lead to cleaner, brighter and more durable facilities, which have been designed to serve local communities and visitors.
The upgrades to date in Cowbridge have also seen improvements to the adjacent bus stop at Town Hall Square.
Works included a full hygienic wall cladding, new anti-slip flooring, modern ceilings and lighting, vandal-resistant finishes, new sanitaryware, baby changing facilities and upgraded cubicles.
In addition, the Council says asbestos was safely removed from the accessible toilet ceiling, alongside electrical improvement works. Whilst at a nearby bus stop, the asbestos roof was replaced, new seating installed, fascia and guttering renewed, and the structure fully repainted.
The refurbishment programme is funded through the Council's Neighbourhood Services Capital Scheme, with additional support from Pride in Place funding.
Work will shortly begin to upgrade facilities at the library on King Square in Barry, with completion expected in the coming weeks. Further upgrades to public conveniences in Penarth will also take place in the coming months.
Cllr Mark Wilson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services, said: “We are committed to investing in good quality public facilities across the Vale of Glamorgan, and the completion of the works in Cowbridge marks an important step in our wider programme to modernise public conveniences in our town centres.
“We have listened to feedback from residents and town centre users, and we recognise how important well-maintained public conveniences are to local communities and visitors alike.
“It is essential that our public facilities are accessible, safe and maintained to a high standard for everyone who relies on them.
“These upgrades ensure residents and visitors have access to clean, modern and fit-for-purpose amenities, with improved durability and renewed fixtures that will stand up to everyday use.
