From Monday, 13th April 2026, households across the Vale will be able to recycle soft plastics within their weekly blue bag collections.
The announcement from Vale of Glamorgan Council comes on the back of a successful trial where more than 16,000 households in Penarth, Dinas, Sully, Llandough and surrounding areas took part.
The Council says the new service will help it to recycle even more waste and reduce the amount going into black bags, supporting its Vale 2030 ambitions.
Residents will receive a roll of blue bags to put their soft plastics into, before putting them into their larger blue plastic recycling bag on collection day.
Items that can be recycled from 13th April include:
- Carrier bags
- Crisp and nut packets
- Biscuit packets
- Pasta and rice bags
- Bread Bags
- Cereal Box Liners
- Plastic Delivery Bags
- Plastic labels and wrapping from drinks bottles
- Wrapping used for multipack snacks
- Read-packed fruit salad and vegetable bags
- Frozen Food Bags
- Freezer Bags
The full list of items will be confirmed in a Soft Plastics Leaflet, distributed to residents ahead of 13th April..
The items collected will be recycled into new products, including Bags for Life and bin bags.
