A Barry secondary school has been celebrating outstanding GCSE results from its 'class of 2020'.
Despite entering St Richard Gwyn Catholic High at the height of the Covid pandemic, 31% of its pupils achieved five A* or A* grades while 16% received 10 A or A* grades or more. Overall, 92% of pupils gained five A-C grades.
The school says this year's cohort of students had demonstrated "remarkable dedication and resilience".
David Blackwell, St Richard Gwyn headteacher said: "We are delighted for the year group as they have come such a long way."
"They joined us in the middle of the pandemic. It is amazing to think that nearly a third of the pupils achieved at least 5 A*/A grades."
"Beyond the statistics, there are so many individual stories of pupils that have overcome challenges. We are proud of all the pupils who worked incredibly hard to achieve their own personal bests."
"We want them to leave us happy with their outcomes as young people ready to take the next steps in their lives. We wish them every success."
Deputy headteacher Matt Dunn added: "The pupils have done brilliantly, and we wish them well in whatever they go on to do."
"We are proud of not only their achievements but the fantastic young people that they have become. Their success reflects the way staff, pupils and parents all work together."
It will be the last development under Vale of Glamorgan Council's long-running 21st Century Schools programme.
Laura Burnett, senior assistant headteacher, said: "Results day has been a wonderful day of celebration. It is fantastic to see the results of the pupil's success. We are a supportive community school, and we are so proud of them all!"
71.4% of entrants gained A* to C grades while 97.6% of learners received A* to G grades.
