Volunteer crew at Barry Dock RNLI have had a busy couple of days, responding to two separate incidents.
The first shout came while the crew were already out on exercise. They were tasked with reports of a 22-foot single-masted yacht, with one person on board, believed to be dragging anchor east from Minehead towards Watchet.
Working with HM Coastguard, the crew calculated the tidal drift and assessed that the vessel was likely to have gone aground. Plans were made to intercept near Stoke Spit, with the possibility that the yacht may have been under power.
Barry Dock’s all-weather lifeboat made contact with the guard vessel at Hinkley, but nothing was seen. The crew were stood down by Milford Haven Coastguard and returned to the station.
The second shout came at 02:39 on Easter Sunday morning, to reports of a missing person believed to be in the vicinity of Friars Point.
A full shoreline search was carried out from the harbour entrance to Rhoose Point and back to the Bendricks. Nothing was found and the crew were stood down before returning to the station to prepare the lifeboat for the next call.
A spokesperson for Barry Dock RNLI said, "It was an early start to Easter Sunday for the volunteer crew, so a huge thank you to everyone who responded."
"If you’re heading out, especially at night, look after each other. Stay together, keep track of your friends, and make sure everyone gets home safely."
"If you see anyone in trouble on the coast, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard."
