Work is set to begin next week to upgrade gas pipes in Llandough and Penarth.
Wales and West Utilities says work will begin in the Penlan Road area and Cornerswell Road area on 18th May, with contractors expected to complete the work in January 2027.
It says the work is vital in ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably in the area.
The project is part of Wales & West Utilities work to invest over £2.3 million over the next year to upgrade gas pipes across the wider Penarth area. The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see over 7 kilometres of gas pipes upgraded across the area.
The work has been planned in conjunction with Vale of Glamorgan Council, and it has been agreed that temporary traffic lights will be used, where required. The teams will start work in the Penlan Road and Cornerswell Road areas simultaneously.
Wales & West Utilities Andrew Coleman is managing this work and said “We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
As projects begin, residents will be able to find out what to expect from the work at www.wwutilities.co.uk/services/gas-pipe-upgrades/.
If you smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 immediately. Trained engineers are available 24/7 to respond and keep you safe.
