Bro Radio is celebrating after securing three Gold awards at the 2026 Community Radio Awards, recognising the station’s presenters, training work and national political coverage.
The awards were announced at a ceremony in Birmingham, held alongside the national community radio conference organised by the UK Community Radio Network and bringing together community broadcasters from across the country.
The ceremony marked the 10th anniversary of the Community Radio Awards, which have recognised excellence in community broadcasting across the UK since 2016.
Bro Radio’s training and development arm, The Bro Radio Academy, picked up Gold for Community Impact Project of the Year, recognising its work supporting training and development.
Presenter Charley Greatrix was named Newcomer of the Year, less than a year after joining Bro Radio through its Academy in November 2025.
Charley can be heard on Bro Radio every Monday lunchtime from 12 pm to 2 pm and also co-hosted the station’s Community Awards in June and GlastonBarry Juniors in July.
Completing the station’s hat-trick of Gold awards was a joint national programme produced with the Wales Community Radio Network, which won Election and Political Coverage of the Year.
The programme was presented and produced by Nathan Spackman, who also presents Bro Radio’s Vale Breakfast programme and is the station's Operations Director, to provide a clear insight into the policies of the six main political parties standing in the 2026 Senedd Election.
The three awards recognise different aspects of Bro Radio’s work, from developing new broadcasting talent and creating opportunities locally to collaborating with community radio stations across Wales on national programming.
Jamie Pritchard, Bro Radio Academy lead, said “The three awards recognise all of the hard work that’s gone on over the last few years, and I’m so happy that we won gold for our project that works to benefit not just our radio station but the wider community too“
Rebecca Steers, Chair of the Community Radio Awards, said “As we celebrate ten years of the Community Radio Awards, it's fantastic to recognise the people and stations who continue to make a real difference in their communities. This award is a testament to the dedication, creativity and commitment shown by Bro Radio, and to the impact community radio has across the UK.”
The Community Radio Awards were established in 2016 and recognise the achievements of volunteers, presenters, producers, managers and stations serving communities across the United Kingdom.
