Funded childcare for all two-year-olds to expand across Vale of Glamorgan
From 2 November 2026, parents and carers of all two-year-olds living in the Vale will be able to apply for up to 12.5 hours of Welsh Government-funded childcare each week, regardless of where they live in the county.
The expansion is aimed at improving access to early years childcare for families across the Vale, while helping parents and carers with the cost of living.
It will also give more two-year-olds the opportunity to benefit from early learning, play and social development.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is supporting families as the scheme expands, helping parents and carers understand what is available and identify suitable childcare placements.
The expansion is also expected to support local childcare providers as demand increases, helping to strengthen the sector and ensure it can continue meeting the needs of families throughout the Vale.
The initiative will also support local childcare providers as demand grows, helping to strengthen the sector and ensure it can continue to meet the needs of families across the Vale.
Cllr Eddie Williams, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Health, said: “Early childhood is such an important time in a child’s life. Access to quality childcare can help children build confidence, develop new skills and enjoy positive early learning experiences, while giving parents and carers greater flexibility in their day-to-day lives.
“By extending funded childcare to all two-year-olds across the Vale, we can help more families access these opportunities and give more children a positive start in life. Our local childcare providers play a vital role in making this possible, and we are grateful for their continued commitment to supporting children and families in our communities.”
Deputy First Minister for Wales, Sioned Williams, said: "I'm very pleased that the Vale of Glamorgan will soon be delivering this offer to all two-year-olds. Our investment in childcare and this early progress is an essential step in delivering on our childcare commitments to the families of Wales."
"I am determined to help families all over Wales to access childcare as a key intervention to tackle poverty and the cost of living while also supporting children's development. We will continue to work closely with local authorities across Wales to roll this out everywhere"
