A project lasting almost 15 years to restore historic features at Llantwit Major Town Hall has finally been completed.
The Town Hall clock, bell and weathervane have been returned to their positions and are working again following a long-running fundraising and restoration effort.
According to Llantwit Major Town Council, the project began nearly 15 years ago when then Town Mayor Councillor Ralph Austin started fundraising to restore and refurbish the clock, bell and weathervane.
Despite a number of setbacks along the way, the Town Council continued with the project, which has now seen the bells ringing again, the clock working and the Town Hall's dragon weathervane back in place.
In a statement, the council thanked residents who had contributed towards fundraising over the years, as well as the contractors involved in completing the restoration.
On social media, the council said: “A HUGE THANK YOU to all the residents who have contributed to the fundraising over the years, and to all the contractors who have been involved in bringing this project to completion.
“Your support, patience and hard work have helped restore these wonderful historic features for the town to enjoy for many years to come.”
The council acknowledged that the restored clock may occasionally lose a couple of minutes due to its age, but said it was delighted to see the project finally completed.
Celebrating the milestone, it added: “The bells are ringing, the clock is ticking and the dragon is spinning!”
