Dydd Miwsig Cymru – Welsh Language Music Day celebrates all forms of Welsh language music, from indie, rock, punk, funk, folk, electronica to hip hop and everything in between. This is the tenth Dydd Miwsig Cymru, so why not join the celebrations?
A handy Spotify playlist has been created to celebrate the Sound of Wales. Here’s some of Kane’s recommendations from the playlist.
Adwaith - milwn
The first artists to win the Welsh Music Prize twice with their albums, Melyn and Bato Mato. Dydd Miwsig Cymru sees the much anticipated release of their third album, Solas. Their track Eto was Chosen as the best Welsh track of the last decade as announced on last night's One Show on BBC One and they also gained the award for Most Influential Band.
Coming from the newly released Solas, this track is a catchy staple and will have you dancing around in no time. The lyrics are catchy with the chorus being something you’ll catch yourself singing along with. The instruments blend well with the post-punk pop vibe and the track as a whole is an easy yet great listen. A great track to kick off Dydd Miwsig Cymru.
Sage Todz - Rhedeg
North Wales based Sage Todz lets the music speak for itself and uses sweet melodies to create catchy emotional tracks that don’t stick to one specific genre.
This track is for the fans of Rap & R&B, this melodic, emotional track really speaks to you and you can see the emotion captured by the lyrics and melody. The heavy bassline mixed with the angelic guitar adds a new layer to this track and has you nodding your head. Sage is one to watch for 2025.
Buddug - Unfan
One of the most exciting new bilingual talents to emerge lately - Buddug is still just getting started.
The latest track from a member of this year's Forte 10, this track provides raw emotion mixed with melancholic pop sounds. The lyrics are emotional and provide a story that will have you captured at every word. This track does a great job at making you feel what she’s feeling and you can understand the emotion in every lyric and sound.
Dadleoli - Rhydd o'r Crud
Cardiff four-piece who formed in 2022 via a Tafwyl project for new bands - and two years later, returned to play in front of over two thousand people on the main stage. Tafwyl is an eight day festival held across Cardiff promoting Welsh Language, Arts and Culture. Culminating with a two day main event at Bute Park.
Coming from their album released last summer, this catchy rock track is fast paced and powerful, with the heavy bass and plucky guitar sounds being the standout instruments in this track. The lyrics are snappy and the chorus is one that will get stuck in your head very quickly. Another band to watch for 2025.
There are loads of other brilliant tracks in this playlist that aren’t mentioned here, I really recommend you check this playlist out in your Dydd Miwsig Cymru celebrations! Check it out here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3dpsEyqd6ke92xyXbNTyHP
