Two community projects based in the rural Vale have secured Welsh Government funding.
Over £1.6 million will be shared by third sector groups and organisations across South Wales to help them improve their facilities.
Just over £94,000 has been awarded to the Ystradowen Community and Sports Association to install roof insulation, a heat pump and solar panels.
The funding will help to secure the energy sustainability of the village hall for the next thirty years.
With Music in Mind, a community interest company which provides singing, exercise and social activities to older people, will get £25,000 towards improving access and energy efficiency at their Cowbridge base.
Announcing the funding, Culture and Social Justice Secretary, Jane Hutt, said: "The Community Facilities Programme is important in helping organisations improve facilities so local people can benefit from them in their day to day lives."
"Each recipient of support from the programme provides a crucial service to the people they serve and it is great the Welsh Government is able to help them do even more."
Other groups benefiting from the Community Facilities Programme include Media Academy Cymru, which gets £300,000 towards buying and improving a currently rented building.
They work closely with Cardiff and Vale College and young people who are not suited to learning in a traditional way, by offering BTEC degrees in game design, film making and animation, as well as running activities such as podcasting, DJing and music.
£25,000 goes to the Cardiff-based NoFit State Circus to install a wheelchair lift and solar panels in their building - the contemporary circus group are appearing at Cosmeston Lakes later this month, providing the finale to Penarth's To the Sea festival.
Finance Secretary, Rebecca Evans, added: "Recipients of support from the Community Facilities Programme provide an important service to their local communities."
"This Welsh Government funding is crucial in supporting organisations to improve their facilities so local people can benefit from them."
