Warning Issued After Reports of Rogue Gutter Cleaners in Barry

Friday, 28 August 2026 15:13

By Nathan Spackman

Residents in Barry are being urged to be cautious following a rise in reports of two men going door‑to‑door offering gutter‑cleaning services.

According to the Vale of Glamorgan Council, the pair have been claiming they are “doing everyone’s gutters in the street” and charging £65 — with some residents saying no work was carried out despite payment being taken.

There have also been concerning reports of the men asking for people’s bank cards.

The Council is advising residents not to feel pressured into agreeing to work or making immediate payments, and to use trusted traders with proper quotes. People are also being reminded not to let unexpected callers into their homes and never hand over bank cards, PINs or banking details.

Anyone who notices suspicious behaviour is encouraged to record descriptions, vehicle details or CCTV footage where possible.

Concerns about a caller should be reported to a trusted person, Trading Standards or the police. In emergencies or if residents feel threatened, they should call 999.

The Council is asking the community to share the warning with friends, family and vulnerable neighbours.
