Ruth Jones joined lifeboat crews from Barry Dock and Porthcawl for a training session as part of a new TV special.
From Porthcawl with Love sees the Gavin and Stacey star tour her hometown alongside fellow actor and writer Steve Speirs.
Ruth has a long-standing family connection with the RNLI in Porthcawl - her sister Maria, a local GP, is a volunteer medical advisor and her brother, Julian, organises an annual memorial run in aid of the lifeboat charity. Her niece, Anousha, was also a crew member before going to university.
After getting kitted up in the boathouse, Ruth, Steve and Maria spent time on Barry Dock's Shannon class all-weather lifeboat, which officially went into service last year.
The group then joined a training exercise with Porthcawl's Atlantic 85 lifeboat which involved rescuing a person from the water.
The RNLi said the volunteer crews demonstrated how they work together side-by-side during both training and on shouts, while remaining on standby to respond if the Coastguard nedded them.

Andrew Walmsley, lifeboat operations manager at RNLI Porthcawl, said: "It was great to meet both Ruth and Steve, and we really appreciated them coming down to spend time with the crew."
"Visits like this give us a valuable chance to share key RNLI safety messages, especially at this time of year when the sea can be even more unpredictable than usual and incredibly cold."
On Friday night, crews from both Porthcawl and Barry Dock went to a private preview screening of the show, where both Ruth and Steve spoke warmly about the RNLI's work.
From Porthcawl with Love, an ITV Cymru Wales production, can be seen on Monday night at 9pm on BBC1 and iPlayer.
