Tributes are being paid to councillor Howard Hamilton, who passed away last weekend.
A joint statement issued by Vale of Glamorgan and Barry Town Council said, "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Councillor Howard Hamilton last weekend. Councillor Hamilton was a dedicated public servant, and was elected to Barry Town Council in 2008, and served as Town Mayor from 2009-2010."
"He was also elected to the Vale of Glamorgan Council in 2012 with a period as Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan between 2014-2015."
"Councillor Hamilton was a passionate advocate for disabled members of the community as a Disability Champion on the Vale of Glamorgan Council as well as sitting on the Executive Committee for the Wales Council for the Blind."

Outside of his work as a councillor, Cllr Hamilton had a longstanding involvement with Barry YMCA Management Committee.
"His longstanding involvement with the Barry YMCA Management Committee also reflected his deep commitment to supporting young people and fostering inclusive community spaces," a spokesperson said.
Cllr Dennis Clarke, Mayor of Barry, said: “I am saddened to hear of the passing of Councillor Hamilton, former Mayor of Barry. I have fond memories of working alongside him at Gibbonsdown Children’s Centre. On behalf of all councillors and staff at Barry Town Council, I send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time."
Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “Councillor Howard Hamilton was a committed and compassionate leader who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of many across our communities. We extend our deepest sympathies to his loved ones and all who knew him.”
Flags outside Barry Town Council and Vale of Glamorgan Council buildings will be flying at half-mast today following the news of Councillor Hamilton’s passing, and arrangements are being made for the flags to also fly at half-mast on the day of Councillor Hamilton’s funeral.
