Barry Athletic Bowler Nicola Clarke-Squires takes the Glamorgan County Championship Ladies' 4-wood title.

Rain delays, and the switch to a venue she had never played on before, failed to put Barry Athletic bowler Nicola Clarke-Squires off her stride in the Glamorgan County Championship Ladies’ 4-wood singles final as she comfortably beat Ruth Harris (Penylan) 21-10 to take the title.

The final was originally set to be played at Kenfig Hill and Pyle, with Nicola also due to be in action in the triples final with team-mates Jude Howell and Carmen Brookes later in the day. But heavy rain meant a switch to Cardiff for the singles, with the triples, against a team from Penylan, being postponed until Thursday (September 3).

“I really wanted to play because I took the day off work. I’d got myself psyched up for the singles, and then I’d got the triples in the afternoon, so I just wanted to play that day as it was going to be hard to fit in both of them this week,” said Nicola.

“In the end we went to Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, which I’d never been to before, never played there before. The green was absolutely dry, completely different. We had a little bit of rain, sun showers. I found the hand I was playing and just stuck with it. I won it quite comfortably in the end.”
