A fire has broken out at the Former Aberthaw Power Station site.
CCR Energy has commissioned specialist contractors to undertake the demolition of the site, as it looks to redevelop it into a green energy and zero-carbon innovation hub,
A spokesperson for CCR Energy confirmed they were aware of a fire incident at the site on Thursday morning.
"Emergency procedures were activated immediately, and the situation is currently being managed by the appropriate emergency services and our on-site response teams. Our priority is the safety of everyone involved."
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that they're on site. In a statement, they advised "residents in the local area to keep windows and doors closed due to large amounts of smoke.
Smoke has been seen coming from the site, with some residents sharing photos from nearby Fontygary Leisure Park and as far as Minehead in Somerset, due to the clear weather across the Bristol Channel on Thursday.
Work to complete the demolition of the former coal-fired power station is expected to continue into 2027, with the most recent demolition event in July seeing the destruction of the site's iconic chimney stack.
