Wales & West Utilities will begin a major upgrade of gas pipes in Dinas Powys on 6 July, as part of a long‑term investment programme to improve the reliability of the local gas network.
The work, scheduled to run until October, is designed to ensure gas continues to flow safely to homes and businesses for decades. The company says the upgrades will also prepare the network to transport greener gases in future.
The project has been planned with the Vale of Glamorgan Council. Initial work will take place on Millbrook Close and Caerleon Road before traffic management is introduced on Cardiff Road later in the month.
Most of the Cardiff Road works have been scheduled for the school summer holidays and will begin on 18 July. Rolling temporary traffic lights will be in place, and motorists are being advised to allow extra time for journeys.
The upgrades form part of a wider £1.1 million investment in Dinas Powys over the coming years. More than 3,500 metres of gas pipes are set to be replaced as part of the programme.
Andrew Coleman, who is managing the project for Wales & West Utilities, said the work is essential to maintaining a resilient network.
He said the company would “keep the local community updated” and work closely with the council and partners to minimise disruption.
“While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals,” he added. “By completing this work now, barring any emergency repairs, we can avoid returning to the area and causing further disruption for decades.”
Residents can find more information about the works at the Wales & West Utilities website.
Anyone who smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 immediately.
