Bro Radio offers up spare air time to local charities at Christmas

Bro Radio will promote the work of four charities working in the Vale of Glamorgan during the festive period.

From Friday, 12th December 2025 - Friday, 2nd January 2026, Bro Radio and its festive pop-up service, Bro Radio Christmas, will air four specially created messages.

Llamau is a charity working in Wales to support young people, women and children at risk of experiencing homelessness. Launching nearly 40 years ago in Barry, the charity has supported over 160,000 people, providing safe accommodation, support and training to build confidence and open paths to brighter futures.

Ty Hafan Children's Hospice in Sully exists to make sure no family lives it on their own, when a child's life will be short. For Christmas, it has expanded a Christmas Tree collection service into the Vale of Glamorgan, with its volunteers collecting trees in early January, in return for a donation to support its work across Wales.

Vale Domestic Abuse Services won Charity of the Year at Bro Radio's Community Awards in 2024. The charity exists to create lasting change in the Vale of Glamorgan, making sure domestic abuse, sexual violence and any other form of violence against women, children, and girls cannot - and will not - be excused. Their campaign has been directed by members of their survivors network, who've created messages that they believe will resonate with those facing domestic abuse during the festive period.

Vale Food Bank fed 3,687 people with emergency food parcels from April 2024 to 2025. The charity believes that no one in their community should have to face going hungry, providing three-day nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to it in crisis. The Charities advert features the voice of Theresa, a service user who has benefited from the services of the Food Bank, including learning new skills and increasing confidence, through its community cafe and sewing group.

Operations Director, Nathan Spackman, said, "As a station embedded in the Vale of Glamorgan, we're always keen to do what we can to promote local charities, organisations and groups right throughout the year."

"For three weeks from 12th December, we'll be giving up to a minute of every single hour to promote four worthy charities to help them with their fundraising campaigns or promote the services they offer, to those struggling during the Christmas and New Year period."

Michael Houghton, head of fundraising at Llamau, said "We want to say a huge thank you to everyone at Bro Radio. Their support over Christmas and throughout the year has been brilliant. It helps Llamau reach a dedicated audience swiftly and effectively, raising awareness of Llamau and the ways in which we can all help to end homelessness in Wales. Llamau is a charity working in Wales to support young people, women and children at risk of or experiencing homelessness, and Bro Radio is helping us to make homelessness a thing of the past."
