A by-election is set to take place in the Baruc ward on the Vale of Glamorgan Council, after Mark Hooper was elected to the Senedd back in May.
Senedd rules state that a Member of the Senedd cannot also be a local Councillor, leading to the by-election being called.
Six candidates have been confirmed to be standing in the Ward, which includes Barry Island and Waterfront, on Thursday, 9th July.
- Chelsea Cottle - Welsh Conservatives
- Trevor Durham - Welsh Labour
- Gabriela Ferguson - Welsh Liberal Democrats
- Shirley Ann Hodges - Plaid Cymru
- Lynden Mack - Wales Green Party
- Sarah Roderick - Reform UK
Polls in the ward will open at 7am on Thursday 9th July 2026.
The elected individual will take the seat on Vale of Glamorgan Council, up to next May's Council elections.
