The 1st May sees the return of the Vale's annual Dog Beach Ban, with dogs banned from a number of the county's most popular beaches during the summer period.
Running from 1st May to 30th September each year, the ban applies to:

Whitmore Bay (Barry Island)

Dunraven Bay (Southerndown)

Cwm Colhuw (Llantwit)

Penarth beach (between the Pier and the Yacht club only)

Penarth Pier (decking area only)

Cold Knap, Barry
Whilst dogs are banned from five beaches in the County, a number of dog-friendly beaches remain accessible to dog walkers over the summer period.
The beaches that remain open to dogs during the summer are:
- Summerhouse Bay,
- Aberthaw Beach, Aberthaw
- Fontygary Bay, Rhoose
- Porthkerry, Barry
- Jackson's Bay, Barry
- St Mary's Well Bay
- Penarth Beach (between the Pier and Cardiff Bay Barrage)
- Watch Tower Bay and Old Harbour, Barry
- Hardees Bay, East of Ogmore-by-Sea
