The headteacher of two Barry secondary schools has been nominated for a prestigious St David's Award.
Innes Robinson, the executive head of Pencoedtre and Whitmore, is one of four finalists in the Public Services category.
Two years ago, he took over as head of Pencoedtre with the school facing special measures and industrial action - but judges said he had "revitalised the school's culture, behaviour and ethos...in astonishingly little time".
Last year, Whitmore High won a Great Place to Work award for being one of the UK's best education workplaces, while Mr Robinson will lead one of the five action groups set up as part of the Barry Plan for Neighbourhoods.
Judges added: "Renowned for his infectious enthusiasm and relentless positivity, he is a catalyst for meaningful change, inspiring staff, pupils, and parents alike."
"His hands-on leadership, unwavering ambition, and visible presence across both schools have galvanised communities, instilling a renewed sense of pride and purpose."
"With a proven track record, having played a key role in the successful turnaround of three schools, Innes has not only elevated educational standards but also fostered environments where students flourish and staff feel empowered."
The other nominees are Carmarthen-based obstetrician Dr Tipswalo Day, Pembrokeshire school wellbeing champion Jan Luke and Robert Scott, a prison officer at HMP Berwyn near Wrexham.
The winners will be chosen personally by the First Minister and will be announced at the Senedd on Thursday 26th February.
Eluned Morgan said: "It's a privilege to announce the finalists of the St David Awards. It brings together the best of Wales, with fantastic examples of the positive contribution people can make to other people's lives."
"We have an incredible list this year, full of inspirational stories and impressive achievements."
Among the other nominees this year are Liz Hopkin and Fiona Elias - the two teachers at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Carmarthen who survived a knife attack by a teenage girl in April 2024.
They are nominated for the Bravery award alongside former assistant head Darrell Campbell, who disarmed the attacker, who is now serving 15 years in custody.
Veteran entertainer Max Boyce and West End actor Luke Evans are up for the Culture category while the Sports nominees include world and Olympic boxing champion Lauren Price and footballer Jess Fishlock.
