The initiative has been launched during Road Safety Week, with vests being distributed to improve visibility and safety on local roads.
Specsavers Barry has joined forces with ETO, a local shop run by social enterprise Awesome Wales, to help keep children safe during the dark winter months.
As part of the partnership, Specsavers Barry is donating over 200 branded high-visibility vests to ETO, which stocks many preloved items including kids clothing, footwear, toys, books, teddies and nursery essentials.
The vests will be distributed to local children in Barry for free to improve their road visibility and safety.
This partnership kicks off on 1st December and will run through the Christmas season, a time when darker evenings and mornings heighten the risks for pedestrians.
The collaboration coincides with Road Safety Week (17 - 23 November), the UK’s biggest annual road safety campaign. This year, the campaign raises awareness about safe and sustainable travel. The donated vests reflect the shared commitment of both Specsavers Barry and ETO to prioritising the safety of local children and supporting the community.
Jamie Pullen, retail director at Specsavers Barry, says: ‘At Specsavers Barry, our commitment to the community goes beyond ensuring clear vision and hearing. We are proud to work with ETO to improve road safety for children in Barry. These high-visibility vests are a simple yet impactful way to help ensure their safety during the darker months.’
Amy Greenfield, director at Awesome Wales, adds: ‘We’re thrilled to partner with Specsavers Barry for this important initiative. At Awesome Wales, we’re passionate about giving back to the community, and these high-visibility vests will make a real difference in keeping children safe as they navigate their daily journeys.’
The vests will be available at ETO, on 83 Holton Road, for families to collect. Families are encouraged to visit the shop from 1st December to ensure their children are equipped for the winter season.
