Vale of Glamorgan MP Kanishka Narayan has been appointed as a junior science minister in the UK Government.
The Labour MP joins the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology following the cabinet reshuffle triggered by the resignation of Angela Rayner on Friday.
Mr Narayan was previously a parliamentary under-secretary to rural affairs and environment secretary Steve Reed, who has been moved to the housing and communities brief.
He said he was honoured to be joining new science and technology secretary Liz Kendall.
Announcing his appointment on X, formerly Twitter, he said: "Technology changed my life. In the last year, with All Hands on Tech, I know it has done so for parts of my community in the Vale of Glamorgan."
"I can’t wait to help that mission nationally: building a future of greater prosperity, dignity and joy in communities across the country."
Cardiff South and Penarth MP Stephen Doughty retains his role as a junior foreign minister for Europe, North America and overseas territories.
Other appointments see Chris Elmore, the Bridgend and Porthcawl MP, named as an under-secretary in the Foreign Office under Yvette Cooper.
Llanelli MP Nia Griffith leaves her junior ministerial role in the Wales Office, which is taken up by Cardiff North MP Anna McMorrin.
