A fish and chip shop in Rhoose has been named one of the best in the UK, according to a new survey.
Farnham's fish bar at the Fontygary Leisure Park was one of just four Welsh entries in Fry Magazine's annual list of top 50 takeaways.
Judging took place in secret with mystery diners visiting takeaways and restuarants, assessing them on a range of crtieria such as food quality, cleanliness, staff experise, value for money and social media presence.
Only the highest scores were enough to earn an award - with the pass mark this year standing at 96%, although some managed to gain the full 100%.
The other Welsh chippies to make the grade were Ainsworth's in Caernarfon, Hiks in the Brynhyfryd area of Swansea and Fintans of Llanishen in Cardiff.
Reece Head, competition organiser, said: “Congratulations to this year’s award winners! Another year has passed and, once again, these shops have shown resilience, adapting to today’s challenges with remarkable dedication."
"At a time when inflationary pressures are being felt, these businesses continue to stay positive and prioritise their customers, maintain exceptional standards, and find innovative ways to keep fish and chips affordable."
“Starting the year as award winners is a fantastic way for fish and chip shops to kick off 2025, setting the tone for a successful year ahead."
“Whether served in a restaurant, a takeaway, or from a mobile unit, the Fry Awards prove that quality fish and chips can be enjoyed anywhere.”
All of the winners - including Farnham's at Fontygary - receive a plaque and a copy of their mystery dining report.
Farnham's other branch at Boverton in Llantwit Major was also recognised by the same survey in 2021 and 2023.
