Coastal visitors are being warned about the risk of tidal cut offs during the winter months.
Two people were rescued from Sully Island after they were cut off by the incoming tide on Saturday morning.
The RNLI at Penarth sent out its D-class lifeboat at just before 9am to recover the pair and take them back to shore.
Last Tuesday afternoon, the same lifeboat was called out following reports of two people marooned on a sandbar in St Mary's Well Bay, but after a search, no one was found.
A spokesperson for the RNLI at Penarth said: "People visiting the coast are urged to be cautious due to becoming cut off by large tides in South Wales."
"Tide times and heights vary throughout the month and can easily leave people stranded and needing help. If you find yourself in difficulty it is vital that you call 999 and ask for the coastguard."
Earlier this year, the lifeboat charity recruited a water safety task force to help minimise the risk of tidal cut-offs at Sully Island.
