Work has begun on a new affordable housing development in Llysworney.
Plans to build seven new homes on land at Moat Farm were given the go ahead in September 2023, despite concerns that the rural area lacked local amenities and infrastructure.
The scheme, led by the Newydd Housing Association, has received £1.55 million of Welsh Government funding from its social housing grant programme and is due to be completed by next spring.
Jason Wroe, CEO of the Cadarn Group, which includes Newydd, said: "We are excited to embark on this project, which will provide much-needed affordable housing in this rural area."
"These homes will be built to the highest standards of energy efficiency, benefiting both the environment and our future tenants."
"We are looking forward to the end result, ensuring local people get the opportunity to live in an affordable home within this desirable area."
Eventually, the scheme will provide four one and two-bedroom flats along with three two-bedroom houses, available for rent and designed to be energy efficient to minimise the enivronmental impact.
Castell Group have been appointed as contractors in partnership with Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Dorian Payne, Castell Group managing director, said: "We are committed to building sustainable, affordable housing that makes a lasting positive impact on communities."
"This development in Llysworney is a great example of that commitment, and we look forward to seeing local families benefit from these much-needed homes."
Cllr Sandra Perkes, cabinet member for public sector housing at Vale Council, added: "This is part of a wider home-building programme that has also seen a series of council housing developments completed over the last few years, with others on the way."
"It is vitally important work as we look to address the acute need for properties in the Vale. We are committed to providing modern, comfortable, accessible, energy efficient accommodation for residents, homes they can be proud of."
"This is the latest example of that work and a project we are very excited to support."
